Bismillahirrahmanirrahim. Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.
It is a great pleasure to congratulate the ICT staffs and students of Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Umar Al-Khattab for making the school's official website a success. My special thanks and heartfelt gratitude goes to the school's ICT Committee for their tremendous hard work to make "SAYYIDINA UMAR AL-KHATTAB" website possible. Ours is a new school, in a very special environment. The children we teach come from families who, for the most part, still live in "Kampongs". There are no strangers; everyone is a friend and a neighbour. A decade has gone and we have seen the school achieved and accomplished a lot of values in education and life. Working together, cooperating, improving communication, pooling resources, sharing ideas, committed and caring for each other are some of the values we inculcated to everybody. Be in academic or co-curricular activities, our school has tremendous and significant experiences and achievements we will cherish and remember forever. The vision, mission and motto of our school keep us going. We have teachers to share their expertise of their own discipline to the students as they travel everyday in their learning process... to acquire knowledge and skill in order to become an effective individual... an asset to their family, to the community and to the government of His Majesty, the Sultan and Yang Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam. Academic motivation has increased for the past years as shown in examinations. Students' performance has shown tremendous improvements. Percentage of passes has increased from year to year. Several subjects have surpassed the percentage for the national average for public examinations. The numbers of students furthering their studies to sixth form has also increased. We are very grateful to see some of our former students who are now serving the school and they serve as role models for the others to succeed. The school has hosted several competitions and supported the Ministry of Education's policy of balanced education. Our students were able to give us "honour and glory" from several inter-school competitions and tournaments they have participated. Active participation of students in clubs and uniform groups is another contribution of them. Physical improvements of the school have also been achieved through the help and cooperation of teachers and students. It is everybody's interest to beautify the classrooms. Such keen desire can be seen in all classes and school building as a whole. Partnership is very important. Our school has developed goodwill to parents of our students. "VIP" (Very Important Day") Day has seen a remarkable response from parents. We have adopted an "open door and open arm" policy to people from all walks of life especially to parents who wish to come and discuss matters concerning their children. The communities surrounding our school have helped us a lot in making our activities and programmes worthwhile and possible for the benefits of our students. For the past years this cooperation and coordination from both parties has blossomed into a harmonious and friendly relations and to the community where our school is situated. Yet, there are still many things we need to learn, many things that we could do better and many difficulties to overcome. We need to work hard together and help one another for the attainment of our vision and mission. We will... keep on moving toward a better horizon through "thick and thin" as the saying goes in guiding our students to develop their potentials… and fulfilling our nation's dream - - - our students, our younger generations ... our pride, strength and hope for the future. Lastly, the school would like to thank everybody especially teachers who made great contribution in providing quality education and preparing our students for their successful life in the society today and tomorrow! The students, on the other hand, must strive and work very hard to achieve success in their studies and value greatly the importance of education.
