The functions of the department are as follows:
Secretariat to Planning The Review Committee for National Education System.
Produce a useful updated, accurate and valid educational data and statistics for educational planning and policy formulation and for bench marking.
Conduct useful, valid and reliable action research for policy formulation and decision making.
Monitor and evaluate the progress of the implementation of educational policy, projects, programmes and innovations
Planning for education, based on education projections
Disseminate educational data and information to interested parties

Collate and coordinate education information as required by the ministry
