DOA SELAMAT AND HANDING OVER OF THE NATIONAL FLAG CEREMONY TO THE BRUNEI DELEGATION TO THE 18TH ASIA PACIFIC CHILDREN  CONVENTION IN FUKUOKA, JAPAN (13 – 27 JULY 2006)

 

 

Jalan Muara, 11 July 2006 – A Doa Selamat and handing over of the national flag ceremony for the Brunei delegation to the 18th Asia Pacific Children Convention in Fukuoka, Japan, was held at Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College this afternoon. Present as the guest of honour at the function was Dr. Haji Mahali bin Momin, acting Director of Schools, Ministry of Education.


The delegation, comprising eight primary school children, will be accompanied by a chaperone. As of this year, a delegation to the convention will include an observer from the Ministry of Education. The delegation will be leaving for Japan on 13th July 2006.


This convention is organised by the community in Fukuoka, Japan, with the objectives of providing opportunity for students to learn the culture and traditions of other nations; to share and respect the way of life of other races; and, to foster friendship and goodwill amongst students in the programme.

 

 

 

The Department of Schools, Ministry of Education has been coordinating this programme since 2000 after taking over the responsibility from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.


During the convention, students will stay in Marina Camp (one of the biggest camps in Fukuoka) for four days. They will also be taking part in various activities including an 8-day homestay programme. Fifty eight countries are expected to participate in this annual convention.
