WORKING VISIT TO SULTANATE OMAN
4th June 2008, Sultanate Oman – A delegation from the Ministry of Education led by its Deputy Permanent Secretary (Corporate Services), Dyg Hajah Norjum binti Haji Yusop, recently ended a five-day working visit to the Sultanate of Oman. The visit which began on 31st May and ended on 4th June 2008 was hosted by the Omani Ministry of Higher Education.

The Deputy Permanent Secretary’s delegation included Dr Hj Kassim bin Hj Mohd Daud (Acting Director of Planning and Development), Dr Hjh Masnon binti Haji Ibrahim (Assistant Rector UNISSA), Dr Hj Junaidi bin Haji Abd. Rahman (Acting Assistant Vice Chancellor UBD), Awg. Noorhaizamdin bin Hj Mosbi (Director of Technical Education), and Pg Hjh Mas Salwa binti Pg Mohd. Said (Deputy Principal Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah College of Nursing).
The objectives of the working visit, among others, were to discuss areas of cooperation and to present executive action plans in the implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Brunei Darussalam and the Sultanate of Oman in the field of higher education.
At the initial stage of the visit, the Deputy Permanent Secretary and her delegation paid courtesy calls and attended meetings with several Omani senior officials including the Undersecretary of Higher Education, His Excellency Dr Abdullah M. Al Sarmi, and the Underscretary for Education and Curricula, Her Excellency Dr Muna Bint Salim Al-Jardaniya.
The delegation visited a number of higher learning institutions which include the University of Sultan Qaboos, University of Nizwa, Nizwa College of Applied Science, Middle East College of Information Technology, Oman Nursing Institute, and Oman Nursing Specialized Institute. During these visits, the delegation heard briefings and interacted with their hosts.

The Brunei visitors also had the opportunity to visit the Ministry of Higher Education Admissions Center, Knowledge Oasis Muscat, a girls’ secondary school, and various places of interest such as the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, historic forts and museums.
During the visit, the delegation also attended dinner receptions hosted by the Undersecretary of Higher Education as well as by the Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to the Sultanante of Oman, His Excellency Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adam bin Haji Ahmad.
The working visit ended with a wrap-up meeting between the Brunei delegation with the Undersecretary of Higher Education and his senior officers.
