THE HONOURABLE MINISTER OF EDUCATION VISITS FLOOD-HIT SCHOOLS IN TEMBURONG DISTRICT

 

 

10th February 2008, Temburong District – The Honourable Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Hj Awg Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Hj Mohamed Taib, Minister of Education today visited some of the flood-hit schools in Temburong District. The visit was aimed to take a closer look at the extent of damage caused by flash floods last Saturday, 8th February 2008. The minister visited Sultan Hassan Primary School, Bokok Primary School, Kenua Primary School and Semabat Primary School.


 

 

The Honourable Pehin first visited Sultan Hassan Primary School in Pekan Bangar. The arrival of the Minister and delegation were greeted by the headmistress, Cikgu Ampuan Yusnani binti Ampuan Haji Yusof. During the visit, the Honourable Pehin took a closer look at the school’s damaged administration block and classrooms. The flash floods had damaged furniture and teaching aids such as books and overhead projectors. Another school, which was badly affected by the floods, was Bokok Primary School where the water had risen as high as six feet and caused extensive damage to various sections of the schools including the auditorium hall. The Ministry of Education has taken early measures by allowing students to be temporarily excused from school.

 

 

 

 

 

 

At the Kenua Primary School and Semabat Primary School, the flash floods had blocked the roads leading to the schools on the day. However, the floods had subsided and the schooling session has back to normal.


The Honourable Pehin encouraged principals and teachers of both schools to work together to speed up the cleaning process so that the schools can resume lessons.


Accompanying the Honourable Pehin during the visit was Permanent Secretary, Deputy Permanent Secretaries of the Ministry of Education and directors as well as senior officers at the ministry.
