HM BRIEFED ON DEVELOPMENTS IN
IMPLEMENTATION OF SPN21

Bandar Seri Begawan - His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muizzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam paid a visit to the Ministry of Education yesterday afternoon to be brought up to speed with regards to the new National Education System of the 21st Century (SPN21).
His Majesty was greeted by the Minister of Education, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Hj Abdul Rahman Dato Setia Hj Mohamed Taib yesterday morning at the new headquarters at MoE.
The event began with Pehin Dato Hj Abdul Rahman describing the evolution of the nation's education as being built as a package from the primary level to higher education to eventually incorporating technical and vocational education.
He added that the SPN21 enabled students to choose programmes within their capabilities, interest, growth and self-development.
He added that the new system will also shape the students into a young generation of quality that possesses a strong national identity as well as an international outlook to enable them to be competitive and sustainable with the ever-changing times.
Following the speech, Permanent Secretary (Core Education) of MoE Datin Paduka Apsah Hj Abdul Majid and Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) Hj Daud Hj Mahmud, gave a short briefing on the launching of SPN21.
The permanent secretary spoke of the aims and plans of the SPN21 in fulfilling the needs of Vision 2035 as well as how it was assessed, the challenges faced as well as the strategic themes.
The briefing that was held in the conference room of the MoE headquarters ended with a discussion amongst the Cabinet ministers.
His Majesty was then taken to the first floor of the building to view the exhibition on the SPN21 that was prepared by the Curriculum Development Department and presented by Hj Abdul Rahman Hj Nawi: Acting Assistant Director of the Curriculum Department.
There, His Majesty saw the new SPN21 textbooks, scheme of work and print media.
The Media and Education Resources Unit was also visited by the monarch where His Majesty witnessed the video and audio editing process as 12 pupils from Kiarong Primary School gave a performance in the studio that was recorded.
The visit ended with a photograph session.
