MEASURES TAKEN BY THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION IN HANDLING INFLUENZA A (H1N1)
The Ministry of Education in collaboration with The Ministry of Health have taken precautionary measures in handling the spread of Influenza A (H1N1) as follows:
The Ministry of Education, with advice from The Ministry of Health, has extended school term holiday to 4th July 2009. Schools will recommence on the 6th July 2009. Throughout the extended school-break, students are advised to stay at home and not allowed to travel outside the country and to reduce social activities.
The ministry of Education has issued circular to all schools and colleges outlining guidelines in handling the spread of Influenza A (H1N1).
Schools are required to conduct daily temperature checks on every student before classes;
Parents/guardians are to be contacted immediately if the students have high temperature;
Parents/guardians advised not to send their children to schools if they have symptoms of fever or flu;
Students are strongly advised to wash their hands or to use hand sanitizer;
The schools’ surroundings will have to be clean at all time.
The Ministry of Education with the help of The Ministry of Health have provided schools with masks and thermometer. The schools are advised to purchase hand sanitizers which to be placed in each classroom.
A special media interview with the Acting Minister of Education was held on the 30th June 2009. The interview outlined measures taken by The Ministry of Education in responding to His Majesty Government’s efforts through the Ministry of Health, in handling the outbreak of Influenza A (H1N1). In the interview, Pg Dato Dr Hj Mohammad outlined several preventative measures that the Ministry of Education has already taken in preventing the spread of the pandemic to the schools population, such as by providing the schools with disease prevention facilities. He also advised all schools to form a task force specially to handle the spread of Influenza A (H1N1) situation and use the guidelines prepared by Ministry of Health.
A special ‘Hajat’ prayer and recitation of Surah Yasin and Doa to prevent the spread of Influenza A (H1N1) was held on 2nd July, at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam’s Mosque with the Acting Minister of Education as The Guest of Honour.
